Ongoing practice led research based work using everyday objects as starting points. Investigating the use of display, embellishment and adjacencies to create meaning, absurdity and intrigue. Discarded Wedgwood vases become a focus, looking at ways to animate these ‘forgotten’ ‘heirlooms’. These are often transformed and co-joined or simply mended with elaborate dressings.

Darren is very sensitive

An ongoing body of work that pulls in lots of anxiety and upset, possibly a way to grieve from various rejections, faltering communications, ghostings and the need to deal with this using objects, sorting and presenting them. Some of the items feel unwanted (personalised handkerchiefs found on eBay) and giving them some adoration. The shimmer wall feels empowering, it took a while to design and produce and the patience needed presented a way to manifest the anger…

Misconstructions

My current practice links pleasure seeking through making and fusion. Sensorial obsessions with objects, forming interconnected networks and heightened neuroplasticity.

Heronporn 

The piece has been an unassuming work in progress, linking digital hoarding with art and porn addictions, culminating in an array of a collection from various sites over the years. Images were constantly collected and ‘dumped’ into a folder, recently I decided to give the project closure and create a visual thumbnail / spreadsheet. There is a nod to the German conceptual artist’s Timm Ulrichs’ 1992 work Kunst und Leben and to Simon Fujiwara’s installations Since 1982 at Tate St Ives.

I particularly like the fact that Patrick Heron’s work Horizontal Stripe Painting November 1957 - January 1958 is often displayed wrongly, the horizontal becomes vertical, in many of the images.
